Community Service is one of our top priorities. We are regularly involved in community service events on a local level. We are also involved periodically in regional, national, and global service events that give students a sense of connectedness outside the university setting.
Every year we are involved with Alternative Spring Break trips where we travel to serve another community.
We are connected to the new Day by Day Warming Shelter and help them with volunteers and raising awareness of the issue of homelessness.
Our youth mentoring program allows the students to mentor local ELCA church youth in a variety of ways including students leading confirmation classes, chaperone lock-ins, lead Senior High Youth Gathering (SYG) workshops, Girl Talk Sleepover event, frost cookies and shop with youth, etc.
Random Acts of Kindness
The Gathering Place finds opportunities to to share Christ’s love through random acts of kindness. This includes but is not limited to raking, yard work, shoveling, and giving out 200 Christmas cookies to university students during final’s week at Polk Library.
